Awa Odori Dance Festival
With over 400 years of history, Awa Odori is one of Japan's most famous traditional dances.
While performances take place throughout Tokushima Prefecture in August, the largest and most spectacular festival is held in Tokushima City over four days, from August 12 to 15. Tourists are more than welcome to join the "Niwaka Ren" (drop-in dancing groups) and dance along with the locals. As the famous festival saying goes: "Fools dance and fools watch, so you might as well dance!"
